Portfolio of Works

My love of being  in and on the water  and living by the ocean.

The joys of painting on location are amazing.  I manage to get out in all seasons, except when it is wet!

Most paintings shown are framed under museum glass, there are some prices that are for unframed painting in protective sleeve .

Once added to cart the price will include a shipping/handling fee.

Please contact Betsy at [email protected] if you prefer to pick up your painting.

From sunset through twilight then emerging into the darkness of the night, these times of day create a mood that evokes curiosity and suspense. Bright & diffused light lead me through the painting when I paint with a goal to capture the subtleties of how light changes the landscape and how we feel about impending darkness.

All paintings shown are framed under museum glass.

Once added to cart the price will include a shipping/handling fee.

Although my love is to paint on location, I find the studio the perfect setting to bring the "outdoors" to life on my easel.

All paintings shown are framed under museum glass.

In March 2020, at the onset of the stay-at-home order, I wrote this in my e-newsletter:

The arts offers us solace, an escape, a way to recharge our energy, lift up our spirits. Whether you create, or not, now is a perfect time to explore the world of creative arts.

I am going to use some of this enforced time at home to paint pet portraits as gifts for my family. It's something that I have wanted to do for awhile and other art deadlines and obligations just kept taking precedence. This project is a wonderful way for me to connect with different family members scattered all over the place and at the same time I get to paint them a gift. I will keep you up to date on my progress, as I paint my way through my family of pet lovers. My nephew in Alaska has a sled dog team, he has to choose one dog to start with!!

In May 2020, as we continued to stay-at-home but knew a lessening of restrictions would be announced  I wrote this in my e-newsletter.

These pet portraits have been a fabulous distraction for me. Besides sharing happiness by giving them as gifts to my family, I have loved all the responses knowing that joy is being passed along.

This made me think about expanding my project. I am now painting pet portraits for people who have made a difference in my life during this stay-at-home order. The term essential workers encompasses so many people. My list became reality when I thought about who has made my life better, happier, easier. Those people are all essential to our wellness, and this seems like the best time to thank them.

After we emerged from the constraints of the pandemic,  I decided to continue to paint pet portraits.

During January 2020 I took part in the 31 day challenge organized by Strada Easel and followed by artists from all over the USA, and possibly farther afield!  Rules required that I paint from life each day, photo references were not allowed, and that I post on social media each day.   My plan was to paint outdoors but then an unexpected thing happened. I feel in love with sketching and painting interior scenes of my home.  Even when the days were a bit milder, I was so focused on my home that I was compelled to stay inside and explore new options for painting my "home sweet home" !

Some of the paintings are for sale , unframed prices are listed and I am happy to quote you framed prices. The sketches are not for sale as they are in my hard bound art journal/ sketchbook. If I ever have my drawings made into prints I will set up a new collection.

2017 is here and I have joined the " 30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge organized by Leslie Bryd Saeta.

What an invigorating way to usher in the new year and set up a routine in my studio.

I joined this challenge last year and loved the daily painting, the personal goal of trusting myself to try new things and keep my sights set on a theme for the month of January.

This year I have chosen the theme of light.

I wrote a simple prose to get me started.

Light. Shimmer, sparkle, glimmer. Capture Me. Hold me. Let me Loose.

So off I go with light leading the way through January 2017.

This portfolio contains all 26 paintings that I completed for the "Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days" Challenge organized by Leslie Saeta for January 2016.
